I have a number of mythos books in my collection and add to them periodically as i feel like it - both from Lovecraft and other authors, Frank Belknap Long being one of them (although I wish i had his other volumes as well, though the project to collect his works has never really taken off it certainly has as many twists as one of his stories). This book really to me is a pivot point in the mythos fiction in that it showed me that others could hand the mythos, its mysteries, its horrors and its weirdness just as well if not better. To me The Hounds of Tindalos is quintessential mythos - and I have no idea why but I think the house are a fascinating monster. Ironically I have artwork but Tim White who depicts a modern day hound perfectly and I think I saw it before I read the story which truly brought it to life. There are of course other stories in the book which highlight the skill of his writing a true shame considering outside the story what else is so well known about him. Ironically the Hound of Tindalos was the first non- Lovecraft mythos piece to written, it cleared the way for the works of Lovecraft to life on and evolve and not just persist as examples of a now passed author.more.
La prima intervista ai Dyrnwyn risale a un anno e mezzo fa, in occasione del Romaobscura II con Primordial headliner. In quell’occasione intervistai anche i toscani Wolfingar, due belle chiacchierate nate per caso e anche per questo molto interessanti. La tecnologia, però, mi abbandonò poco tempo più tardi, perdendo in questo modo i file audio delle interviste. Per i Wolfingar non ho potuto recuperare poiché la band si è sciolta, ma dai romani Dyrnwyn mi sono fatto perdonare con una lunga chiacchierata pomeridiana in quel di San Lorenzo, novanta minuti che potete leggere qui sotto. Tra patatine e soft drink, la sezione ritmica ( Ivan Coppola alla batteria e Ivan Cenerini al basso) ha risposto con sincerità e simpatia alle mie domande. Iniziamo parlando della storia del gruppo e ditemi qualcosa sul nome Ivan Coppola: Partiamo dalla pronuncia, visto che tutti dicono i “ Dirnuin”, “ Darwin”, “ Dauinin” e “grazie a quelli che hanno suonato prima e i Korrigans!” (risate generali, nda). Si pronuncia “ Durnuin”. Per il nome abbiamo fatto un sondaggio, a un certo punto – quando ancora non sapevamo bene la direzione da prendere – erano usciti nomi in inglese, in italiano no perché non ci convincevano, poi lui (l’altro Ivan, nda) ha tirato fuori Dyrnwyn che in gaelico è il nome della spada Excalibur. Ivan Cenerini: Uno dei tredici tesori di Britannia che si pensa sia Excalibur. Ivan Coppola: Avevamo pensato di fare il primo demo sui tesori di Britannia, ma poi sono cambiate le cose, vabbè. Ivan Cenerini: Se guardi il nuovo logo vedi la scritta Dyrnwyn con la spada incastonata nella roccia. Ivan Coppola: E insomma il nome ci è piaciuto, ci piace il fatto che la gente s’impanica e non ricorda il nome (altre risate, nda) Ivan Cenerini: La scelta del nome stava diventando una cosa talmente tanto lunga che c’impediva di fate tutto anche i live “ragà non c’avemo il nome” il nome ci.
